Slam
"Human" [Soma]

No sign of the original mix on this release - but then you all had it on the album, right? Instead Soma draft in an old hand and a rising star to perform remix duties, adding the robotic whispered acapella that you could slap down over almost any track with an electronic slant.

With Swayzak's radio edit clocking in at seven plus minutes, you know the full mix is going to be one you can leave on whilst you nip to the bar, go to the toilet and make that long overdue call to your mum. Whilst the 128bpm tempo and dark bass chords are the ingredients of a dancefloor ripper, the syncopated popping beats refrain from igniting the track, making it more of an elaborate electronica epic.

Soma have put their full weight behind Vector Lovers, and his remix here proves why. Although it fits easily enough into the electro/techno crossover category that's flavour of the month right now, it's no cynical cash-in, like at least 50% of the tracks I've heard lately. A tearing bassline and driving beats are tempered by the trademark Vector Lovers delicate melodies, and although it's towards the outer limits of my typical playlist, this will serve as a crucial peak-time cut for many DJs of a slightly tougher persuasion.
