Kraddy
'The Illegal Album [Refiner Records]

Glitch mob rocker Kraddy takes his ultra unique sound to wax for his second release 'The Illegal Album. As a pioneer of the highly revered Glitch Hop sound, the San Franciso based dj/ producer has always retained a raw yet impressively technical sound with a constantly evolving and forward thinking approach to his music. With 'The Illegal Album' Kraddy reworks some classic Hip Hop/ Rap tracks, from The Next Episode to Gold Digger, tearing the tracks inside out with grinding electro bass lines and distorted vox into one twisted glitched hip hop and breakbeat cauldron.

It's virtually impossible to go wrong with any of the vocals on show, and Kraddy certainly doesn't waste them.. Tracks like 'Dangerous' and 'Gimme That' are raw and demanding with the vocals layered to perfection, catchy yet not over over-bearing. Unfortunately the same can't be said for all the tracks with a growing feeling that Kraddy all too often over-complicates matters. Keeping it simple and marvelling in the beautyof the original is too often overlooked in remixing, here it’s anointed perfectly with Kanye West's 'Gold Digger' not quite cutting the mustard. In the main the album doesn't offer enough variety and depth to leave a long-lasting impression on your mind, yet let’s not forget this is a remix album with an intended element of humour, and not a collection of original work. All in all this is definitely worth a listen, especially if you're a Dj looking for some re-works of classic tracks to get your crowd interested.
