Alex Smoke’s success is down to his productions’ wide appeal – the basslines are bumping enough to please diehard househeads like myself, whilst the beats are stripped down to keep the minimal techno brigade happy. Beyond the beats and the bassline, the focal point here is a low slung melody of sorts, accurately described on the press release as ‘wonky’. Wonkiness is very much a good thing.

Matt John had a massive underground hit at the end of last year, so it’s no surprise to see him appear with a remix here. However, the Perlon producer doesn’t offer anything more than minimal mediocrity. His take follows along the same lines as ‘The Rising Scope’ but lacks the nagging, infectious riff that set it apart. Stick to the original.
